A Saga of Garden Garrison,Freedom struggle,Custodians of civil rights & justice For most Delhites, the name "Tis Hazari evokes the visual image of congested, dusty district courts complex in north Delhi, which multitudes of litigants frequent for addressing their myriad cases, whether criminal or civil but few are aware of the origin of the name "Tis Hazar", in the literal sense means "Thirty Thousand" There are references in Mughal literature of a royal princess, at whose behest, an enormous garden containing 30,000 trees were laid out at the same premises where today's Tis Hazari Court complex exists: On the other hand, Sikh literature records that the grounds of Tis Hazari housed a garrison comprising of thirty thousand horses and cavalry. The undoubted fact remains, that the Tis Hazari Complex has bore witness to remarkable history.
